Vilnius-Hong Kong
Curiously enough, one can draw socio-political parallels between Hong Kong and Lithuania. Staying on the way and of desire is their destiny. With a different history and for different reasons, processes that are happening in Hong Kong at the moment can remind us of something familiar in the recent past. Macro-scale global dynamics does function as one mechanism.
From 2014 to 2016, during the Umbrella Revolution and its aftermath, Aaron Kahn lived and worked in Hong Kong. Goda Palekaite spent 4 months conducting research there in 2015 and 2016. One year ago, Alicja Khatchikian passed through on her own research. In the intervening year, Alicja has created a photo book on her experience in China and Hong Kong, “Farther Than I Thought” (Quiet Propaganda, Italy, 2017), and Goda wrote her first theatre play “Conversation on The Roof of Chungking Mansions.” Aaron will perform a live audio-assisted reading of the play. Of course, we will have some music and flowers too.
